Joseph "Joe" Macarchenia, 67, passed away with his 'favorite' sisters by his side to the sound of the Beatles playing 'Let it Be' after a long struggle with cancer on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Joe was all that a brother, son, and friend could be... generous, funny, talented, and feisty at times. He loved his family and his Portage Lakes Monday lunch and bar buddies. Joe was always hungry for a good cheeseburger and never met a pizza he didn't like.
Joe learned how to play guitar by ear at the age of 12 after being inspired by his favorite band, The Beatles. He vividly recalls the first time he heard 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' on his transistor radio and said it changed his entire world.
He loved his guitars and had great musical aptitude. He impressed his classmates when he was a one-man band at his grade school in Tallmadge. At Tallmadge High School he formed a rock band and played at school events; even hosting an alternate prom. Years later he and his favorite Uncle Don played "Heart of Gold" at family parties; a fitting song since it describes Joe's heart to a T. Joe loved to fish, especially on Lake Erie, with his Uncle Don. He hosted many a fish fry for his family and friends with Lake Erie walleye. He loved to golf, drive his sportscar, and gamble at Mountaineer Casino. He was a huge Cleveland sports fan, especially the Browns.
Joe retired from Lockheed Martin after 30 plus years of service and enjoyed a long retirement.
He leaves behind his mother, Mary Jane; sisters Nancy Thompson and Linda (Greg) Feezel; nieces and nephews; Kelly (Jordan) Bialosky; Kevin (Grace) Feezel; Chloe Feezel and Cameron Feezel; and aunt, Sister Nancy Dawson.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; and his beloved Uncle Don Dawson.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
