Joseph A. Zampino, 78, passed away April 13, 2017. He was born in Akron and lived all of his life in the Akron area. Joe graduated from St. Vincent High School where he played football and ran track. He graduated from The University of Akron with a Business Administration degree in accounting and was a member of the Lone Star Fraternity. He also graduated from Kent State University with a masters in education. Joe served in the U S Coast Guard for two years. He taught accounting and other business courses for 33 years; he was a senior advisor for over 20 years, retiring from the Akron Public School System in 1994. After retirement he continued to work with student teachers at KSU. Joe coached football at North High School for 17 years; he coached girls distance track at Hoban for over 21 years; boys and girls cross country for 5 years; he coached several state track championships and was also a personal trainer for several college distant runners for 6 years. Joe enjoyed the love of his family on Christmas Eve; making wine and canning hot peppers with his friends; he loved the beach, sports and his coaching. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Zampino; brother, John Zampino and sister, Nancy Caponi. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Georgiann; nieces, Marie (Sonny) Trealor, Monica (Jamie) Pearson and Maria (Mark) Pizer; nephew, Steven (Sherry) Kedra; special great nephews, Blake and Ross Kedra; and many other great nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Wednesday at St. Anthony Church, 83 Mosser Place Akron, OH 44310. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St. Akron. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Anthony Athletic Fund.
