Josephine "Jo Anne" Oakes, 93, passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones Tuesday, July 17, 2018.  She was born January 1, 1925 in Akron, Ohio to Anthony and Mary Abbate and was a long time resident of Akron's North Hill and surrounding Catholic communities.

She will be remembered for her vibrant laughter and love for everyone; she always lit up the room and brought joy to those around her. Jo Anne took pride in her rose gardening, loved cooking large family and holiday meals along with spending time with loved ones.  She just celebrated her 71st wedding anniversary to her life-time love, Robert Oakes. "The flags fly for our love".  Together they were blessed with 2 children, Lorraine and Robert Oakes; 2 grandchildren, Teresa and Dustin Overholt; and great-grandchildren, Hanna and Abbey Overholt.

She is predeceased in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Angeline and Vito Barone; brother and sister-in-law, James and Margaret Abbott; and her son, Robert "RJ" Oakes.  She leaves behind to cherish in her memory, son-in-law, Curt (Connie) Overholt; granddaughter-in-law, Wendy Overholt; daughters by a loving friendship, Janet Masiella and Carol Jenkins; many adored nephews and nieces; and countless friends that became family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Blessed Trinity Church, 300 E Tallmadge Ave. Akron. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received 1 hour before the Mass at church.
