Joyce (Higgins-Myers) Lester

Joyce (Higgins, Myers) Lester died August 17, 2016 after a brief illness.  She was born in Akron, Ohio, February 14, 1927, the only child of Clark and Ruth Higgins.  After a chaotic early life Joyce married her first husband William R (Bill) Myers.  Bill and Joyce worked together to build the loving and stable family that Joyce always wanted. That marriage lasted 50 happy years and ended upon Bill's death in 1997.  She then reconnected with a childhood friend Robert (Jack) Lester and they were married in 2001.  Joyce was an accomplished seamstress and quilter who also spent many hours crocheting.  She loved playing bridge, taught us the rules for penny ante poker, and delighted in showing her grandkids that they weren't quite as good at euchre as they thought. Joyce was at her happiest when surrounded by her family.  She'd move heaven and earth to help her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.  As the family became "blended" she welcomed all new members equally.

Preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Bill.

Joyce is survived by husband, Jack; children, Steven (Sheila) Myers, Sue Guttman, and Mark Myers; step-children, Steven (Judy) Lester, Rob (Donna) Lester, and Dan Lester; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were equally precious to her.

The family is grateful for the excellent care provided by Devoted Companions and Summa Hospice, who made her passing as peaceful as possible.

Cremation has taken place, with a private interment in Galion, Ohio at a later date.

There will be a memorial service August 30, 2016 at the Unity Chapel of Light, 503 Northwest Ave, Tallmadge OH, 44278 at 3:00pm, Chaplin Patricia Haines, PhD, officiating.  Immediately following the service family and friends may gather in the Friendship Hall at the church for a meal.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joyce's name to Summa Hospice or a charity of your choice.
