Listen to Obituary

Kathleen “Kathy” Manzo, age 88, passed away peacefully in the early hours of May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 15, 1937, Kathy was raised by her Croatian grandmother from the age of seven, an experience that deeply shaped the strength, resilience, and independence she carried throughout her life.

Kathy’s grandmother was especially influential in her upbringing. She introduced Kathy to her first Christmas tree and was known for her “packages galore” and generous spirit. Kathy grew up waking to the comforting smells of baked baklava, kifle, nut roll, and cut-out cookies, as her grandmother was a wonderful baker who always shared what she had with others. Her grandmother’s love, traditions, and kindness left a lasting impact on Kathy’s values and outlook on life. Kathy often said her grandmother changed her life in so many meaningful ways and remained forever grateful for her influence. She carried that love with her throughout her life and looked forward to the day she would be reunited with her in Heaven.

At the age of 16, Kathy entered a convent, where she remained for five years before later meeting and marrying Frank Manzo. Together, they built a family and raised three children.

Before Frank’s passing in 1989, Kathy attended Duquesne University and worked in banking before later working at JCPenney, Industrial Products Sales, and Industrial Tube and Steel. After losing her husband, Kathy devoted herself to her family and remained a strong, independent woman for the rest of her life, facing every challenge with courage and determination.

No matter what life placed before her, Kathy was known for her hard work, kindness, and generous spirit.

Kathy had a quick, sarcastic wit that those who loved her will always remember with a smile. Beneath that strong personality was an incredibly generous heart. She was truly a giver in every sense of the word, finding great joy in showering those she loved with thoughtful gifts and acts of kindness. She also supported several charities and quietly gave to others whenever she could. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and treasured the simple moments spent with those closest to her.

Her faith in God was central to her life. Kathy often shared what she considered her miracle: after slipping on ice one winter night while going out to get her dog, she broke her femur and somehow pulled herself back to safety over several hours in the freezing cold. She always said she felt no pain during the ordeal and believed with all her heart that God was with her, giving her the strength to survive. Her faith never wavered, and she hoped others would come to know that same comfort and belief in the Lord.

Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Mark and Lauren, whom she adored fiercely, and her beloved fur baby, Bentley, who brought her endless companionship and joy. From the moment they were born, she showered her grandchildren with unconditional love, affection, and gifts, creating memories they will carry forever.

She is survived by her children: Frank (Kelly) Manzo, Denise (Gary) Riggs, and Mark (Stacy) Manzo; her grandchildren, Mark and Lauren; her sister, Carole Allbritten; and her cherished fur baby, Bentley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Manzo; her parents, Edward and Katherine Allbritten; and her brother, Edward Allbritten.

Kathy will be remembered for her strength, humor, generosity, unwavering faith, and the deep love she gave so freely to those around her.
