On Saturday, August 27th, 2022, Kenneth Charles Hoedt, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 97.
Ken was born in Buffalo, NY on March 14, 1925 to the late Charles and Lillian (Urban) Hoedt. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following his service to his country he attended The State University of New York-Buffalo and The University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at UW he received his PhD and met the love of his life, Betty (Harris) Hoedt. He married Betty and they soon began a family.
In 1961 Ken and Betty moved to Akron with their young family, and Ken began his career as a professor of Counseling and Special Education at the University of Akron. They settled in Tallmadge where they made many close friends in the neighborhood, at the university, and the Tallmadge United Methodist Church. Ken enjoyed his career and retired as the Head of the Department of Counseling and Special Education after 25 years. Ken was a gifted teacher and a natural speaker. He had many interests including traveling, gardening, fishing, singing in choirs, playing Pinochle, and reading a good book. He was a member of the Danbury choir until his passing.
Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brothers, William Hoedt and Robert Hoedt; sister, Doris (Hoedt) Linder; grandson, Stephen Hoedt; and daughter-in-law, Jane (Betz) Hoedt.
Ken is survived by sons, Kenneth Hoedt Jr., Dave (Vita) Hoedt; daughter, Judy
(Doug) Smith; grandchildren, Angela Smith, Nathan Smith, and Michael Hoedt. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Visitation will be 11:00 until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
Funeral service will follow visitation at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Skip Meyers officiating.
Interment will be at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
