Konstantinos "Gus" Kanarios

August 14, 1933 — October 24, 2016

Gus Kanarios, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Tallmadge, Ohio on October 24, 2016.  He was born in Chios, Greece on August 14, 1933 to parents Michael and Evangeline Kanarios.  In the early 1960s, Gus left Greece for Akron, Ohio to pursue a better life for his family.  He was the youngest of seven siblings, and with the help of his sister, Sevasmia, he was able to bring his wife, Aliki Kanarios, her two daughters, Eva and Niki, and his in-laws to Akron, Ohio.  They later settled in Munroe Falls, Ohio where their twin sons, Michael and Angelo were born.   Gus' passion was the restaurant business, and he eagerly learned the hospitality trade from the Anthe brothers, Nick and Charlie.  He was also committed to his community, serving as an active member of AHEPA, the Tallmadge Rotary Club and the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.   Gus eventually opened his own restaurant, Gus' Chalet, in 1974, turning it into one of Akron's premier dining locations and serving as the President of the Akron Restaurant Association.   As a family endeavor, multiple generations passed through Gus'.  When it eventually closed its doors in May 2014, Gus' Chalet had been open for forty years, and had created a lifetime of memories for Gus, his family, his friends and his loyal customers.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Aliki Kanarios; daughters, Evie (Mike) Kanarios, Niki (Kostas) Galatoulas; and sons Michael (Amy) Kanarios, Angelo (Olympia) Kanarios.  He was also admired and loved by his grandchildren Elpiniki (Niko), Aliki, Pantelis, Nicholas, Connor, Kellen, Constantine, and Evangeline, and his great-grandson Fotis.
