Leonard "Sam" always said he was going to live until the ripe old age of 102 and that is exactly what he did when he passed away on November 20, 2016, joining his dearly departed wife of 74 years, Helen and his caregiver, grandson Dylan.
Leonard retired from Goodyear Aerospace as a technical instructor in 1980 and since that time has thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and independence. He was a lifetime member of The Goodyear Amateur Radio Club and enjoyed golfing. Gardening was his favorite passion and until the end would still weed and water his garden as he surveyed the yard daily in his Cricket scooter.
Leonard leaves behind children, Leonard (Beverly), William (Kathlene) and Marilyn (Guy); seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday November 23, 2016 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave, (On the Historic Circle).
Funeral service will be immediately following calling hours with Deacon Makara officiating.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Following are Leonard's thoughts about leaving this world as written by him:
Don't grieve for me,
For I have followed the path that was best for me and my family.
But-I turned my back and left it all
When I heard my bodies urgent call.,
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, or work or play.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh or kiss,
Oh yes, those things, I too will miss.
My life has been full, I savored much,
A good wife, good friends, good times, a love ones touch.
Perhaps my time seemed too brief,
No need to lengthen it now with undo grief.
Remember me as I was alive – keen to things all
Before nature made its final call.
Be not burdened with tales of sorrow
For I wish you all the sunshine of tomorrow.
