Cover for Marilyn Kay (Mccourtie) Starner's Obituary

Marilyn Kay (Mccourtie) Starner

March 25, 1946 — January 14, 2025

Jackson Township

Marilyn passed away peacefully on January 14, in her home surrounded by loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell "Buzz" Starner who passed away in 2020.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Allison Reeder, sister, Pat Henze (Pete); brother, Jim McCourtie (Janet) and a host of cousins and extended family.

Born in Akron on March 25, 1946 she met the love of her life at Kent State University and married Buzz in 1967. Marilyn and Buzz were backers and benefactors of Kent State University their entire lives, buying the school a victory bell and helping to create the senior nursing school scholarship H. U. G. S. Always a fan of Kent's women's basketball program she rarely missed a game. She taught first grade at Echo Hills School in Stow, Ohio for 31 years, retiring in 2001. Marilyn had a sweetness and light about her which drew people to her. She became active at the Jackson Township YMCA and soon had the

adoration of all who met her. She discovered another passion working at Jackson Bear Hugs, a nonprofit organization. Marilyn has so many people who love and will miss her but we all celebrate her joys and now the freedom from worry and illness. She smiled through it all. We love you, Marilyn. We will miss you. Behave yourself up there!
