Mary Evelyn Martin, 81, went to be with her Lord, on June 30, 2016, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer that moved and inspired those close to her. Said her children, "Today, mom was received by God and received her complete healing."
Born in Lawton, West Virginia, Mary's love of adventure and learning took her to Washington D.C. at age 17 where she worked for the FBI. Torn between her head and her heart, Mary and moved to Akron in 1953 where she taught in Akron Public Schools until 1984 when she left to establish computer supply store "Best Little Warehouse," which she sold in 1996.
Mary was a resident of Tallmadge, OH since 1968 where her children attended school and she was very active with friends and church right up until her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband Duard ("Marty"), parents James and Myrtle Barnett, and brother, Tommy Barnett.
Described as loyal, stubborn, adorable, generous, silly, sensitive and an example of a life well-lived, she is survived by her beloved children, David of Nashville, TN; Sue (Rick) Serbin of Hartville; Steven (Wendy) of Nashville, TN; precious grandchildren Meredith (Brian) Duncan, Kyle (Natasha) Serbin, Katie (Jayme) Donnelly; Zachary Martin; Axel Mars Martin and Oslo "Ozzie" Martin; and the other apples of her eye, great grandchildren Tanner and Avery Duncan and Kolton Serbin.
She is also survived by beloved siblings, James (Yoko) Barnett, Fran (Don) Wootton, Jeanne (Dana) Walker, Lorren Barnett and many adored nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Southeast Church of the Nazarene, 771 Dunbar Road, Tallmadge, OH with Dr. Rick Serbin officiating. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service, with food and fellowship following the service.
