Neil Gabay, 81, passed away April 7, 2016. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, he lived in the Akron area since 1967. Neil served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea where he met his beloved wife, Puk, who passed in December.
Neil had a diverse career path which included being a radio announcer, TV weatherman, professor, soccer coach and usher for Akron Zips. He was also a poet, writer, artist, avid reader, sports fan and lover of beauty. He will always be remembered for his enthusiasm, sharp wit, sports commentary, and knowledge in many topics. His morning routine included coffee, the New York Times and the Beacon Journal.
Neil is survived by his daughters, Jasmin, (Bobby), Lillian (Allen); sons, David (Frances), Eugene (Joyce); sister, Sima (Neil) Auerbach; brother, Alex (Pat) Gabay; grandchildren: Erica, Chloe, Sarah, Aaron, Laura, Ethan, and great-grandchild Elisabeth. We will cherish many joyous memories of him.
Visitation will be 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Donovan Bagnoli Funeral Home 339 Southwest Ave, Tallmadge.
Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11:30 a.m.
