IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norma Scarpitti
(Mariola) Di Orio
September 17, 1943 – January 8, 2021
Norma Scarpitti Di Orio, 77, passed away on January 8th, 2021 from a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Norma was born in Carovilli, Italy on September 17th, 1943 to the late Davide Scarpitti and Primilia Mariola. After her marriage to Enrico Di Orio in 1960, Norma migrated to Akron, Ohio to start a new life in "America", and joined a community of Carovillesi family and friends in Akron's North Hill neighborhood. She was always welcoming and inclusive to all in her home and took pride in feeding the ones under her roof, especially the ones she loved in her Italian Kitchen. Many of you may have sampled her Italian cooking during Sunday afternoon bocce season at the Carovillese Club, in "Normetta's Kitchen". Norma worked at the American Dental Laboratory for years, but was very well known for her job as a skilled seamstress. She worked at O'Neil's Department Store, in downtown Akron for many years in the Women's Alterations and Drapery Department. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and the Le Radici Italian Club. She was also a past longtime member of the Carovillese Women's Club.
Norma was proceeded in death by her son and "Angel in Heaven", John Di Orio. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 60 years, Enrico Di Orio, her daughter Patricia Di Orio Dorton, (Brian Olah), her son Nicholas Di Orio, (Lauren Di Orio), her grandchildren Jacob Dorton, Jocelyn Dorton,(Daniel Bilinovich) and Enrico Dante Di Orio, her two brothers in Italy, Pierluigi Scarpitti and Alfio Scarpitti and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both in America and in Italy.
Norma enjoyed spending time with friends and family, cooking, playing bingo, going to the casino and Italian events. She adored, cherished and took great pride in her family. She was so loved and respected by many, and had a special bond with her kids and grandchildren. She will forever be missed by many. Norma will be best known for her cooking and the love she put into it with her homemade meals and holiday celebrations. Many have been blessed to experience her craft of Authentic Italian cooking. Norma was an amazing wife, mother, sister, mother in law, grandmother and friend. May she be free of pain and suffering as we all hold her close in our hearts and cherish the memories we have made over the years.
