Raymond Ned Smerritt, 91, passed away May 15, 2024. He was born in Lorain, Ohio and lived most of his life in Cleveland before moving to Tamarack Ridge Nursing Home in Brimfield, Ohio last year.
Raymond served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was honorably discharged after serving his country with distinction. He worked at Chase Brass and Copper Company in Cleveland. He went to Cleveland Public Schools, graduating from East High School. His favorite hobby was to go camping, fishing and hunting for precious gems in the Canadian wilderness. He loved to tell vivid stories of all the great adventures he had there with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nellie Czmyrid; siblings, Mary Howard, Patricia Kubilus, Ann Marsinick, Jean Narolski, John Smerritt, and Daniel Czmyrid.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judith; daughters, Susan (Dennis) Shand, Elizabeth Carrera; grandchildren, Claire, Peter and Evan; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He will be remembered for his great story telling, infectious laugh and love of his family.
Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
