Raymond M. Jurkowski

Raymond M. Jurkowski, 82, passed away January 29, 2017.  He was born on September 29, 1934 to Steve and Margaret (Ondrejko) Jurkowski in Mt. Pleasant, PA.

He was preceded in death by one great grandchild.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Joan of 62 years; children, Michael (Judy) of Alexandria, VA, Janet (Eugene) Trusnik of Joppa, MD, Dennis (Deborah) of Green, Thomas (Denise) of Barberton and Paul (Lisa) of Tallmadge; brother, Bernard (Sandy) of Orange, CA; sisters, Isabelle (Bill) Misiak Placenita, CA and Virginia (Ron) of Jeanette, PA, 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Ray was a Korean War veteran having served on the USS Hornet.  He graduated from Youngstown University majoring in accounting and business management.  Ray accepted a position with the Internal Revenue Service in Akron and retired in 1991 as the Utility Industry Coordinator and retired again from Lux & Associates in 2000 as tax manger.

He belonged to Knights of Columbus Council #3529, where he held most offices and served on State Council as Fraternal Director and the Membership Director.  Ray also belonged to DAV, American Legion Post #255, Slovak J. Club, Polish American Club, ABC Polka Association, and Cleveland Polka Association.  He attended the Tallmadge men's Bible Study Group for the past 20 years.  He belonged to Blessed Trinity Parish (formally St. Martha's church) and served as chairman of parish finance committee for many years.

Visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle), where K of C Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Blessed Trinity Parish, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron with Rev. Joseph Warner officiating.

Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post #8487.

Memorial donations may be made to the Blessed Trinity Memorial Fund or Knights of Columbus Charitable Fund.
