Richard "Dick" Underwood

Richard “Dick” Underwood, 87, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. Born on July 9, 1938, in Akron, Dick was a 1956 graduate of Ellet High School and spent his life devoted to his family, his work, and the Tallmadge community.

Dick was the beloved husband of the late Sharon (Sines) Underwood, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Agnes Underwood, and his brother, Ken Underwood (Maxine).

He is survived by his loving sons, Mike (Shawn) Underwood, Bill (Kim) Underwood, and John (Stephanie) Underwood; his brother, Jack (Rita) Underwood; his cherished grandchildren, Ozzy, Rick (Esmeralda), Austin (Peyton), Jacob (Brianna), Bryn, and Reagan; and four great-grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy.

Dick proudly served his country in the Army Reserves for seven years. Beginning as a pipe fitter apprentice, he dedicated more than 40 years to the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, where he finished his career in tire development and design before retiring.

Beyond his professional career, Dick was deeply committed to his community. He volunteered for more than 30 years with Tallmadge Little League, serving in many capacities and positively impacting generations of young athletes and families. His dedication, kindness, and willingness to help others made him a respected and familiar figure throughout the community.

Dick will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, and friend.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Danbury Senior Living of Tallmadge for the compassionate and special care provided to both Dick and Sharon during their stay. Your kindness, support, and dedication meant so much to the entire family.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, at Falls Creek Community Church, 149 Northmoreland Ave., Munroe Falls, OH 44262. 

A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. 

Interment will take place at Tallmadge Cemetery.
