Obituary

Richard P. Rinaldo, 66, of Akron, passed away unexpectedly October 17, 2016.

Richard was born to Madeline and Daniel Rinaldo on July 6, 1950, in Akron and was a lifelong area resident. A 1968 graduate of Hoban High School, he went on to attend The University of Akron where he was a member of the Beta Lambda Chapter of Theta Chi fraternity. Working through school, he would go on to find early employment success in golf caddying, then with the C&O and B&O railroad companies, and ultimately with First Energy for 31 years.

Richard's interests were many and primarily involved sports. He was enthusiastic in mentoring young athletes and was an area official and referee for baseball, softball, and basketball for youth through collegiate levels for over 30 years. Among his proudest accomplishments was annually officiating baseball at the Roy Hobbs Baseball World Series held in Florida and calling balls and strikes in tournament play at Dreams Field in Cooperstown, NY.

Richard's heart was large and he regularly gave of himself to friends and family. Above all, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and found strength through scripture and glorifying God. He manifested his passion in regular support for those in need and several church mission trips abroad.

Preceded in death by parents Daniel and Madeline, Richard is survived by brothers, Dan (Darlene) and Jerry; nephews, Erik (Jen) and Dan (Corrina); and niece, Debbie.

Friends and family may call Sunday, October 23, from 1-3 pm at the Hennessy Funeral Home, 552 N. Main St., Akron, Ohio, with a memorial service to be held immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to area youth athletics.
