Rita M (Harrington) Thomas

Rita M. Thomas, 90, passed away July 20, 2025. Born in Akron, she lived most of her life in the Akron and Tallmadge area.

Rita was a 1952 graduate of Akron North High School. She worked many years as a secretary prior to being hired as the bookkeeper at Bumpas Drug. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls. Rita was also a member and past president of the Meadowbrook Garden Club, Tallmadge Garden Forum and her bridge club. She loved gardening and was an excellent cook and baker. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them. Rita was always very involved in church activities and was the director of the Food Cupboard at the First Congregational Church of Akron. She loved music and sang in various church choirs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Harrington.

Rita is survived by her husband, Harold; daughter, Beth Thomas of Tallmadge; sons, David (Christina) Thomas of Rootstown, William (Lindsey) Thomas of Illinois; grandchildren, Michael (Mallory) Thomas, Mary (Matt) Edwards, Benjamin, Abigail, Owen Thomas; great grandchildren, Andrew, Luke, Nathan, William, Liam, Armando, Mia, Rocco; and many friends.

Visitation will be 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).

Funeral service will follow visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Howard Pippin officiating.

Interment will be at Tallmadge Cemetery.
