It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Alan Smith, 80, who departed this life peacefully on October 16, 2024. Born in Akron, Bob spent the majority of his life in the Tallmadge, Streetsboro, and Stow areas. After retirement, he spent winters in sunny Florida.
Bob's professional journey was marked by over 30 years of dedicated service at Goodyear Tire & Rubber, where he was respected for his work ethic and intricacy on tire mold projects. Outside of work, he showcased his talent and love for craftsmanship. He was passionate about collecting and restoring classic cars and had a keen eye for architecture, which he applied to building homes. Early in life Bob was quite an artist. He further developed his artistic skills by hand painting signs at his father's business, Smith Sign Shop, and later at Kent State University's commercial art program. His methodical nature and creative eye were admired by family and friends, who will remember him dearly for these attributes.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judy, whose support and love enriched his life; his daughter, Rebecca (Joe) Nicholas, who carries forward his spirit; and his precious grandchildren, Andrew and Abby Nicholas, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Suzanne (Randy) Troutman and Joy (Don) Rinehart, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his kindness and unwaveringly authentic personality.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sidney and Clara Smith, and his cherished children, Patty and Matt Smith, who will forever remain in our hearts.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, private services are being held for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob's name may be made to the American Heart Association athttps://www.heart.org/.
Bob's legacy of love, creativity, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives he touched.
