IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert (Bob)
Green
November 21, 1940 – April 23, 2021
Robert (Bob) Green, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.
Bob was born November 21, 1940 in Piedmont, West Virginia and shortly after moved to Akron, Ohio where he lived the remainder of his years. He served his country in the US Army from 1961-1967 where he was on active duty in Vietnam in 1962-1963. He married Sandy, the love of his life, on August 27, 1963. Together for 57 years, Bob and Sandy raised four children and also shared their home with 14 foster children, forever changing their lives. Although he had a long career in Computer Programming he enjoyed his role as 'Pop' more than any other title he held.
Bob will be remembered for his love of computers, soccer and his grandkids. Beginning in the early 80s he was one of the pioneers of computers and continued his love of technology throughout his life. He loved soccer as a season ticket holder to the Cleveland Force/Crunch, attended the 1994 World Cup, he refereed and watched countless games played by his grandkids from childhood through college. Bob loved supporting his grandkids in any way he could no matter the distance or the event. Whether testing for a new karate belt or getting an award at school, Pop was always there.
Bob is survived by his wife Sandy (Wilson); his sister Sandy (Ken) Domke; his four children, Tamela Green, Sue (David) Fears, Valerie Green-Bryant, and Jason (Christina) Green; grandchildren Jessica and Victoria Kaelin, Ryan Green, Corey and Kobi Bryant, and Chloe Green; great grandchildren Elena, Ethan, and Kaelin; many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
The family is grateful for the care and support provided by the Summa Home Hospice Team.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 28 from 5pm to 7pm with a memorial service to be held immediately following at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St. Akron. In lieu of flowers, the Greens request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
