Obituary

Robert C. Oberlin, 87, passed away November 13, 2014.

Bob was born on March 17, 1927 in Barberton to Frank and Emma Oberlin, the third of three boys. He graduated from Coventry High School in 1947. He then followed his brothers into the service of his country. He joined the Army where he joined the Military Police. He served in the European theater where he eventually served in Nuremberg, Germany during the Nazi trials. After he was discharged from the Army, he returned home. On a blind date he met a beautiful girl named Eva. They were married on June 11, 1949 at St Martha's Church in Akron. He was a Master Plumber from 1951 to 1986. He had his own company "Oberlin Plumbing" in the 70's. He then became a plumbing inspector for Summit County, retiring in 1996. He was a jack-of-all trades, able to do just about anything, according to his grandson. Bob enjoyed being with his family. He was also an avid golfer and bowler. He also enjoyed playing pool with his brothers-in-law and he played hours of cards, especially with his wife, Eva. He was an active member of St. Joseph Melkite Church for 63 years and a member of the American Legion, Post No 281 for 61 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emma Oberlin; and his brothers, Frank and George. He is survived by his wife, Eva; daughter, Cathy (Joe) Kelley; his two grandchildren, Matt (Angela Mallasee) Kelley and Diana (Zach) Zents; his great-granddaughter, Lilly Marie Kelley; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Melkite Church, 600 W. Exchange St., Akron. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St. Akron.
