Rodney "Rod" Ray Colbert, 70, of Akron, Ohio passed away on May 24,2024 after only two weeks from his stage 4 melanoma diagnosis. Rod was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
Rod was one in a million. Described as the kindest, funniest, and most amazing man, he was the life of any party and the first to lend a helping hand. Rod's warm personality endeared him to everyone he met.
In his career, Rod dedicated himself to the automotive industry, working in various roles from parts and service to sales. His true passion was as a Bodyshop Owner/Manager, where he not only excelled in his work but also trained and mentored many young individuals, forming lifelong friendships along the way.
An avid Cleveland Browns fan and muscle car enthusiast, he truly enjoyed his loud and fast Mustang most of all. He and his soulmate, Kelly, cherished traveling, listening to music, and attending concerts together.
Rod is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kelly Colbert (nee: Richardson); daughters, Cathy (Greg) McDonnell of Mentor, Shelby Colbert of Akron; seven beautiful grandchildren; loving in-laws, Mick and Cheri Carmichael of Akron; brother, Terry (Lori) Colbert of Mogadore; sister, Claudia (Dave) Hall of Tallmadge; sister-in-law, Nancy (Bruno) Mariola of Akron; brothers-in-law, Noah (Jessica) Carmichael of Green, Mike Richardson of Kent; surrogate brother, Raymond (Nancy) Gabler; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and proud dog dad to our Cavapoo, Bentley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Colbert (nee: Heiser); beloved brother, Jon Colbert; grandparents, Otis and Geraldine Colbert, Homer and Evelyn Heiser; beloved son, Nick.
Rod will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of kindness and friendship will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Visitation will be 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historical Tallmadge Circle) and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the funeral home
