Ronald “Pete” Mitchell, 84 peacefully went home to be with his Lord on June 7, 2026. His wife and nephew were with him.

He was born in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, raised in St. Louis, MO, then moved from the Pittsburgh, PA area to Tallmadge in 2005.

Ronald served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Nuclear Architect with Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory working on Navy nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, Stephen Ministry, Social Action Club and Kiwanis. He was always missionary-minded and worked with local churches to support that ministry. Ronald was an avid gardener, enjoyed sailing, southern gospel music and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Winifred Mitchell; sister, Kathy (Rudy) Schneller; brother, Robert (Sandra) Mitchell.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Hope; daughter, Diane Mitchell; stepdaughter, Tiffany Sorber; stepsons, Hayes Hornish, Bryes (Shauna) Hornish; grandsons, Haydan and Hyde Hornish; nieces, Christy Schneller, Nancy Mitchell, Patricia Mitchell; nephews, Greg (Ruth Ann) Schneller, Tim (Karen) Schneller, Stephen (Staci) Hornish; and many friends.

Visitation will be 10:00 until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Dr., Tallmadge.

Funeral service will follow visitation at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Doty officiating.

Interment will be at Tallmadge Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital, First Congregation Church, or Eastwood Church of the Brethren.
