Obituary

Russell Wayne Ilg, "Uncle Russ," age 70, went home to be with the Lord June 28, 2014.

Russell was born and lived in Tallmadge most of his life. He was a member of Faith Family Church in Canton. Russell was dedicated to Tallmadge Little League Baseball and served in all aspects of the game. He was inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997 receiving the "Glenn Speed Bosworth Award" for 25 years of service to Northern Ohio Youth baseball. In 1991, he was honored at the 45th Annual Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA where he received The Phoenix Award for Volunteer of the Year Central Region. Russell worked at Klaben Auto Stores for eighteen years from where he retired.

Russell was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy; father, Bernard; sister, Donna; brother, David; and granddaughter, Brianna. He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 33 years, Julia; son, Russell; daughter, Kathy (Thom Passarelli); son, John (Desserai Starr); nine grandchildren; one great grandson; sister, brothers, and a large loving family.

Russell believed that no one was a stranger and everyone a friend. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Christian Memorial Service will be at 11 am Thursday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N. Main St., Akron, OH 44310 with Pastor Jack Pancher officiating.  Burial will follow at Tallmadge Cemetery.  Friends will be received from 10 am until the time of the service on Thursday.
