Ruth Imogene Swinehart, 91, formerly of Rootstown, Ohio, and most recently of Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026.
Ruth was a longtime resident of Rootstown, where she shared her life with her husband, Ned, son Ed, and daughter Cheryl. Family was paramount to Ruth. For more than 50 years, she and Ned hosted annual family Thanksgiving gatherings and Memorial Day picnics, creating cherished memories for generations of family and friends.
Ruth had a lifelong love of music and shared that passion by teaching piano to multiple generations of local children. She was also deeply involved in her community and served for many years as a board member of the Akron Methodist Church, where she played the piano during Sunday services.
A master quilter and seamstress, Ruth took great pride in her craft and served as a judge at many quilting bees. Her creativity, generosity, and dedication to family and community touched the lives of many.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Ned, and her daughter, Cheryl Darushnia.
She is survived by her son, Edwin (Elise) Swinehart, as well as many nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Homeland Cemetery, Rootstown (located .5 miles from Rte44 on Tallmadge Road)
Luncheon and visitation will immediately follow graveside service at the Rootstown Church of Hope, 4065 Oh-44, Rootstown.
