Sally J (Gill) Thompson

It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of Sally J. Thompson (née Gill) on October 19, 2024. Born to Edward G. Gill (deceased) and Norma N. Gill (deceased) in Akron, Ohio, on June 1, 1952. Sister of Marilyn Gill (Jan, deceased) and David Gill (deceased; Barb, deceased).

Sally attended Barber Elementary School, Goodyear Jr. High, and East High School; great class of 1970. Sally went on to receive her Associate's Degree at the University of Akron in 1972. She decided to follow in her mother's footsteps and completed Enterostomal Therapy training in 1972 and worked for the family business, Gill Ostomy Supplies (Worldwide Ostomy Center, Worldwide Home Health Center). Sally contracted with area hospitals to care for their ostomy patients for close to 50 years. After closing Worldwide Ostomy Center, Sally worked for other companies where she managed the ostomy departments and contracting with hospitals. She continued seeing ostomy patients with her own venture after retirement.

In 1972, Sally married her high school sweetheart, David L. Thompson, who preceded her in death in 1995. Sally is survived by her two sons, Keith David (Jenny Truxall) and Curtis Richard.

"Ganny" welcomed five grandchildren: Kyla, Kaeden, and Olivia Thompson; Sarah Welker, and Jacob Thompson. She also welcomed her great granddaughter, Millie, just this year. Sally is also survived by her longtime companion, James Moore, her stepbrothers: Herbert Thompson Jr. (Gloria) and Lynn Thompson (Debbie) and numerous family and friends. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Herbert Thompson, and stepbrother, Hank Thompson.

Sally was a proud member of East High School Alumni Association and founder of EHS Class of 70 Lunch Bunch. Sally was also the Vice President of Akron Area Ostomy Association. Donations may be made to EHS Alumni Association or World Council of Enterostomal Therapists® (WCET).

Visitation will be 10:00 until 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).

Funeral service will follow visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Partridge officiating.

Interment will be 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park.
