Salvatore Viscomi

Salvatore "Sammy" Viscomi August 9, 1933 - June 11, 2024

The most wonderful husband, father, Nonno, Zio, Salvatore "Sammy" Viscomi passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 in Akron, Ohio.

Born to Giuseppe and Maria Concetta (Procopio) Viscomi, in Soverato, Calabria, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1958 with his loving wife Vita and then to Akron, Ohio with his wife and three kids in 1970. He began his career as a stone mason in Italy and moved on to laborer and carpenter once in Canada. He progressed to leading his own work unit all while learning the English language. He became a master carpenter, building homes and custom furniture. He ran his own business together with his sons.

His talents didn't end with being a master craftsman. You could find him in the backyard planting and tending to many pots and a big garden full of his favorite vegetables. His favorite Italian music played around the house at any time. He had a passion for soccer and especially for the Juventus team, having been a goalie himself in his teen years. He was an amazing dancer, twirling and floating across a dance floor with his beautiful wife.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and all but one sister.

Salvatore is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Vita; daughter, Maria (Chris) Paul; sons, Joe (Rhonda) and Tony (Kristie). He leaves behind grandchildren, Andrea (Jon), Michael (Abby), Liana (Austin), Cory (Lee), Mackenzie (Tyler), Taylor (Josh), Jonathan (Shawna), Cory (Lauren); great grandchildren, Dominic, Danny, Isaac, Thomas, Avery, Mia, Bradly, Malachi, Coraline and Jonathan Jr. In addition, he leaves sister, Antionetta in Italy and sister-in-law, Immacolata, along with many greatly loved nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at St. Hilary's Parish in Fairlawn, 2750 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333.  To view the mass via livestream, please go to https://sthilarychurch.org/mass-times/  and "click here to watch"

In lieu of formal calling hours, the family will receive guests at the church during the hour prior to the mass.

He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers you may make donations to the American Heart Association, St. Hilary Parish or the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Justin T Rogers Hospice Center.

The family would like to thank the many kind staff members at the Cleveland Clinic Emergency Department, the exceptionally caring staff at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, and Summa Home Health Care.
