Obituary

Sandra Hengeli, age 60, went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2021.

Sandy, daughter of Frank and Madaline DeSimone, was born and raised in Akron's North Hill.  She was a loving wife of 38 years to Keith Hengeli and is also survived by her twin daughters, Jessica Hengeli and Janine Aguilar, whom she was very proud of.  Sandy held a very special and shining place in her heart for her granddaughter Sophia.  She loved that Sophia called her Samby or Gramby and she spoiled her to no end; Sandy would have given Sophia the moon if she could have.  Sandy lived a good, generous life.  She was always there for others and always willing to do anything she could to help.  Sandy and Keith met on the softball field and she carried that through the years by volunteering as a coach and manager for the twins in the Tallmadge Little League Softball program.  Sandy started her professional career with Schrader Bellows and eventually retired from Exxon Mobile as a Senior Procurement Associate.  Most important to Sandy was family and the special bond hers had.  She always found time for family parties, get-togethers or any event that brought them all together.  One of her favorite things was annual family vacations to Ocean Isle Beach where there would be as many as 50 of her closest family members all in houses together.  Sandy will be missed and mourned greatly; a void will remain in the hearts of many.

Sandy was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her loved ones that preceded her, including her father Frank S. DeSimone; sister Fiora "Sis" Megenhardt; Brother Patrick Daugherty, Sr.; Grandmother Mary Panaia Ulrich; Aunt Violanda "Yollie" DeSimone; Uncle Nick DeSimone; Uncle Philip Panaia; and other loved family members.

She is survived by mother Madaline DeSimone.  Sisters MaryLou Daugherty; Anna Marie (Jim) Janish; Patricia DeSimone.  Brothers Frank D. (Julia) DeSimone; Angelo DeSimone; Anthony (Lisa) DeSimone; Nick DeSimone.  Nieces Angela (Sean) Shiplett and son Donovan; Kathryn Daugherty and daughter Mackenzie Bell; Kristina Clark and children Ashley, Tyrese and Joe; Alicia Blocker and son Josiah,  Nephews Patrick (Latassha) Daugherty and son Dominic; Michael DeSimone; Frankie DeSimone; Joey DeSimone; as well as many more loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 15 from 4-7 p.m. at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 North Main Street, Akron.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 83 Mosser Pl, Akron.  Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
