Sergio Anthony Carano, 64, passed away November 13, 2025. He was born in the North Hill neighborhood in Akron in 1961 and lived in northeast Ohio his entire life. Sergio was the son of Italian immigrants, Robert and Vera Carano. He embodied his parent's wish to provide opportunity and a better life for their children.
Sergio attended North High School and went on to receive Bachelor and Law degrees from the University of Akron. He worked as an attorney specializing in employment and labor law for 36 years, practicing for the past decade with Hobson, Rasnick, Fox & Kolligian LLC.
Sergio never forgot where he came from, and the North Hill community that helped his parents create a new life in Akron. He taught ESL and Citizenship classes and served on the board of the International Institute of Akron. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, and active in the Carovillese Club and Knights of Columbus.
Sergio is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Vera Carano, and his sister, Lisa Carano.
He is survived by his son, Marcus Carano and daughter-in-law Abigail Sommer of Columbus, Ohio.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron, Ohio. A funeral mass will follow beginning at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
