(Phillips) Stavroff

Shirley Louise Stavroff (Phillips), 79, passed away October 16, 2013. She was born in Akron and lived all of her life in North Hill. Shirley graduated from North High School in 1951, attended Akron University and Kent State University. She married Andrew Stavroff in 1957, was employed by ALCOA for several years. After having children, she worked for the City of Akron Parks and Recreation teaching crafts and ceramics. She then retired from Akron Public Schools. Shirley spent a lot of time volunteering as a youth baseball coach, Den Mother for Scouts, worked the concession stand for NABA, directed a SHARE program for Redeemer United Methodist Church and she made crafts for area Hospice and Nursing Homes, as well as provided blankets, hats, mittens, and other crafts that she made to planned parenthood. She enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling to Maine to visit her sister. She also enjoyed reading and writing and wrote a book named Squirley Shirley.
Preceded in death by her parents, Clair and Ruth Phillips; sisters, Catherine DeVitis and Betty Colby; Shirley is survived by her daughter, Theresa Stavroff; sons, Thomas (Teresa), Timothy (Carol) and Theodore (Robin) Stavroff; grandchildren, Samual, Nicholas (Kristina), Christopher, Alex-ander, Kevin (Heather), Ruth and Donald; great grandchildren, Payton and Greyson; sister, Joan Tanner; brother, Butch Phillips.
A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St. Akron with Reverend Debbie Gibbons officiating. Family and friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday morning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd. Copley, OH 44333.
