Obituary

Shirley A. Politano passed away October 20th, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born in Akron, Ohio on December 8th, 1935 and graduated from Buchtel High School in 1954. Shirley was a loving wife to Vincent and a devoted mother to nine children. She was known as Nana to nearly everyone with whom she came in contact.  Shirley was a nurturing, loving soul. She always forgave, always loved, and always cared for those around her. She was a homemaker and an artist who loved the outdoors. Shirley was strong in her Catholic faith and a proud member of the choir at Blessed Trinity. She thoroughly enjoyed her position at Stride Rite Bootery as a salesperson for eleven years. Shirley will be remembered for her devotion to family, great cooking (mangia!), and sense of humor. She enjoyed the presence of her special watchdog, Virgil.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Vincent, her mother and father, Edna and Frank Sellers, and her sister Jacqueline Sesto. She is survived by her children Anne Marie (Jim) Phillips, Bernadette Starkey, Christine Politano, Jeanne (Roger) Myers, Lorrie (Steve) Liston, Margaret (Joseph) Homoki, Vince Politano, Nicole Politano (Joseph C. Walton),and Carolyn Politano; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, October 26th, 2015 at Blessed Trinity Church, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave. Akron. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N. Main St., Akron.
