Beloved husband Stephen J Amato, 81, passed away December 25, 2017.
Born in Akron, Steve resided in Brimfield for 57 yrs. He served in the US Navy, retired in 1997 and was a member of Local #219 for over 50 yrs.
He was a lector at St. Peter of the Fields, where he taught CCD for 12 yrs. He volunteered at AGMC for 15 yrs and liked to say "Now I get to push people around" and volunteered by reading to the blind at WEYE Radio for 18 yrs. He loved to play cards, shoot pool and watch sports. He enjoyed travel, especially to Vegas. He always had a smile and a joke.
He is survived by wife, Marie, of 57 years, with whom he was co-founder and VP of the Brimfield Young At Heart Club. Children, Stephen (Jennifer) Amato Jr. and Marie (Ronald) Walchalk, who he was especially proud of and loved deeply. Grandchildren, Ronnie and Madison Walchalk and Anthony Amato, who he often bragged about. He is also survived by sister-in-laws, Alice Liolios and Patti Amato, and cousin Joan Pinzes. He was preceded in death by brother, David Amato.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec 30, 10 am until 11:30 am at St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church, 3487 Old Forge Rd., Rootstown, with a mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. with Father David Misbrener officiating.
Interment will be at Restland Cemetery.
