Thelma L. Chapman, 98, passed away May 22, 2026. She was born on September 18,1927 in Hartville, OH. She lived most of her life in Mogadore, OH.
Thelma was the proud valedictorian of the Mogadore High School Class of 1945. After graduation, Thelma started her career as a secretary at General Tire, eventually moving on to B F Goodrich where she met her husband, Carl. After being a full-time mother to her daughters, she then went on to become a shoe salesman, a bank teller, and eventually the executive secretary to the Chairman of the Board of First National Bank. After retirement, she continued her education graduating Magma cum laude from the University of Akron at the age of 73.
Thelma lived a full and wonderful life full of friends, family, travel, music, laughter and love. She enjoyed playing the accordion, was an avid reader, and completed many beautiful needlework projects. She was a member of many clubs: the Mogadore Library Book Club, the Akron Metro Hiking Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a founding member of the singing group The Mogadore Belles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, parents Fred and Alice Moore, sisters Helen Stanfield and Dorothy Cole, brothers Richard and James Moore and her granddaughter Stephanie. Thelma is survived by her daughters, Patty (John) Small, Cathy Jansen, and Janet Hall; grandchildren, Johnny (Megan), Bob, Tom, and David; great grandchildren, Tinsley, Chapman, Leela, and Elliott, sister, Marilyn Cleveland; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home - Mogadore, 34 S Cleveland Ave., Mogadore, OH 44260, with services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Haydu officiating.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the wonderful and loving care that the staff at Rockynoll provided our Mother.
