Vera went to her heavenly home March 19, 2021 at the age of 97. She was born in Akron, Ohio to Christian and Martha Schafer. She lived in the Akron area all her life and was a longtime and an active member of St. Matthew Parish.
Vera retired from her job as school secretary at Forest Hill Elementary after 21 years. She volunteered her time to many organizations, her favorites being First Night of Akron, Ladies Guild and Retired Secretaries Association. Vera helped her husband, Edmund, as active members of the Nat. Assoc of Watch & Clock Collectors.
Vera was a loving example to all her family. Her home was the meeting place for all holidays, making great memories for all. Vera's life was enriched by her love of traveling, dancing, baking and helping others.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Edmund, Jr. who died many years before her in 1988; brother, Harold Schafer; sister, Rosemary Davis, Evelyn Hardwick.
Vera is survived by her sons, Edmund III of Washington and David of California; daughters, Janice (David) Coon, Joyce (Ray) Mohr, Elaine (Tim) Snider all of the Akron area; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sister, Eileen Dunn; brother, Donald (Linda) Schafer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Danbury Senior Living, Tallmadge for the excellent loving care they gave our mother and Southern Care Hospice for care in her final year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Our Lady of Victory, 73 North Ave. Tallmadge. Please be aware that COVID-19 protocols such as physical distancing and the wearing of masks or other facial coverings will be required for the safety of all. Since Church seating capacity is limited, the Mass will be live streamed on the Parish's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ourladyofvictorychurchtallmadge.
Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Hudson, Ohio.
