Victor J. Vatalaro peacefully passed away February 26, 2015 surrounded by his family at home. Born January 14, 1921 in Italy, he came to America in 1929, moved to Akron and resided there the rest of his life. He was 94 and predeceased by his wife, Angeline of 66 years in 2013. A loving couple and long time member of St Anthony's Church, they raised their three sons on North Hill and later retired to the Portage Lakes area.
He is survived by his three sons, Victor (Barb) Vatalaro, Ronald (Carol) Vatalaro and Michael (Roxanne) Vatalaro. He will be deeply missed by his five grandchildren, Victor M. (Jonelle) Vatalaro, Thomas (Vanessa) Vatalaro, Angela (Eric) Davis, Michael (Stephanie) Vatalaro, Katherine (Travis) Hill, and eight great-grandchildren. His brother, Joseph Vatalaro, also of Akron, preceded him in death. He was Uncle Vic to four nieces and three nephews.
A veteran of WWII, Vic worked 30 years for the City of Akron, first with the police and fire department and then as a building and electrical inspector. He was greatly admired by his coworkers and friends as a hard working, caring and insightful person. He loved and tirelessly provided for his family, demonstrating a strong work ethic, personal commitment and integrity as well as a great enjoyment of the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Preschool ( www.littlepantherpreschool.org ), a project spearheaded by granddaughter Angela Vatalaro Davis.
Victor's family will honor his life with visitation hours held at the Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N. Main St., Akron, on Sunday, March 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Victor at St Anthony's Catholic Church at 10 am on Monday, March 2. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross cemetery following the Mass.
