Vincent A DeLuca Jr. passed away October 11, 2025. He was born to Vincent Anthony Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Osco) DeLuca in Akron, Ohio December 17, 1945. "Butch" was the 3 rd of 4 children in the family and was the "most beautiful" baby according to his mother. He spent his childhood in the South Akron family home on Oberlin Court and graduated from Hoban High School in 1963.
Vince's passion for engineering was fostered at The University of Akron where he became an active member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. It was with this group of men that he made lasting memories (without breaking many laws) and lifelong friends.
While attending college, he was set up on a blind date with a young nursing student. They married in 1968 on one of the hottest days in August.
As with many engineers in the area, he started his career in the rubber industry with Goodyear working nights (sometimes napping to the white noise of machinery) during college which culminated in Vince accepting a position at General Tire after graduating. The young couple and their 2 children embarked on overseas journeys while he managed construction projects related to building a new tire plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. His experience would lead to a similar project in Izmir, Turkey for Goodyear years later.
By 1979 with travels of the world behind him, he moved the family to Tallmadge, Ohio and continued his career with Hale and Kullgren Inc, Jones and Ross and finally Chemstress Consulting Co where he and a few colleagues perfected the art of design(morning), imbibe(lunch), edit(afternoon). He enjoyed the people he met throughout his career and had so many stories to share about his time at each company. His final career challenge was to help found an environmental remediation company, HEPA Environmental Services Inc.
In retirement, Vince was able to spend more time golfing, traveling and volunteering. As an active member of the Knights of Columbus with Our Lady of Victory, he was instrumental in organizing events such as the annual spaghetti dinner and pancake breakfast. Volunteering his time at Open M, and ushering at the Akron Civic Theater also allowed him to remain active in the community.
Vince is survived by his children, Lynn (Scott) Veney and Mark (Rebecca Wehr) DeLuca; Grandchildren, Jake Veney and Jenna Veney; brother, Rev. David DeLuca; sister, Patti (John) Pangle; special friend/travel companion/hiking partner, Cathy Vento; and a host of in-laws that appreciated his unabashed approach to life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 45 years Judith DeLuca (Rennie); and brother, William DeLuca.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2025 5pm to 7pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
