Vincenzo "Vincent" Sgro

Vincenzo (Vincent) Sgro – born March 3, 1935 in Bronte, Sicily, and sadly passed away on September 28, 2023 at the age of 88. Our beautiful Dad and Nonno fell asleep – an angel in the arms of God surrounded by family.

At a young age, Vincent became a master artisan in shoemaking, learning his trade from his soon to be father-in-law Antonio Scafiti. Vincent left his family to continue his craft in Milan, Italy. Vincent came to this country in 1956 to be with the love of his life, Angelina. Vincent worked hard to become a U.S. citizen. They were married at St. Anthony Church in North Akron on November 15, 1958, and created an amazing life together. Vincent loved his family, and he instilled in everyone the importance of family values. Vincent was an exceptional soul with an unbelievably kind heart, a true gentleman. The only child of 11 to come to America to create his American dream for his family, Vincent shared his craft in this country opening "Vince's Shoe Service" in 1962. The "Shoe Shop" in Akron's North Hill community became a landmark. Vincent trained many men to learn his trade.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Angelina, and his parents Vincenzo and Rosa Sgro. Also, his siblings Pino, Anna, Biaggio, Carmelina; his sister-in-law, Nancy Tafuri and his great niece, Tiffany.

Dad leaves behind his children, Rosemarie (Vincent) Bartolomucci, Frank (Laurie) Sgro, Anthony (Michele) Sgro and Lisa (Vincent) Spitali. His grandchildren who were his world; Crista (Carl), Gino (Cayli), Dominic, Anthony, Nina (Zach), Vincent and Giavanna. His niece, Linda; nephews, Anthony, Steve, Mario; and many family members in Sicily and Australia.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2023, at Our Lady of Victory Church 73 North Ave, Tallmadge with Rev. Michael Matusz officiating. PROCESSION TO FORM AT THE CHURCH.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

We want to thank so many people for helping our Dad and family including his amazing caregivers Dana, Ana, Kristy, Diane, Dijanna and nurses, Tracy and Terrin. We thank Traditions Hospice as well.
