Virginia Mae Talbott, 85, a resident of Mogadore, Ohio, since 1967, was born April 2, 1939 in Jackson, Ohio (Jackson County), and passed away October 11, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James A. Talbott; parents, Raymond and Essie (Farley) Johnson; sister, Ila (Brilliant) Huffman; brothers, Donald (Carol) Johnson, Glendon (Faye) Johnson, James (Delores) Johnson, Marvin (Thelma) Johnson, and Charles Johnson; sister-in-law Lenora Johnson; and grandson, William Wright. Mae is survived by brother, Orion Johnson; daughters, Virginia Wright, Melanie Talbott; grandchildren, Elizabeth Wright, Madison Oetken and Boyd Oetken; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and beloved bird Kiwi. Mae graduated from Jackson High School in 1957 and worked for 43 years at Mogadore Local Schools. She was previously employed by JCPenney and Jackson City School District. Mae was deeply involved in the Mogadore school community, attending and encouraging students at various events, from sports to music and drama. For many years Mae was President of the PTA, involved in Girl Scouts, served as President and Secretary for OAPSE-AFSCME and MESA/OEA/NEA school worker's unions, was Treasurer for the Mogadore Marching Band and a volunteer for the World Series of Golf. She chaperoned many school activities over the years: band camp, band trips, field trips, and school dances. Mae especially loved going to casinos with friends. Mae and her husband, Jim, spent much of their married life singing in local church choirs. She was also an active member of Mogadore United Methodist Church, where she participated in their choir for many years.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 4 pm-6 pm and Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10 am-12 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home – Mogadore, 34 S. Cleveland Ave. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 12 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home – Mogadore, 34 S. Cleveland Ave. with Pastor Dave Haydu officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mogadore United Methodist Church or to the Mogadore Fire Department or to Mogadore Local Schools.
