Obituary

Vito Anthony DeCarlo, "Papa Tony", was born on April 21st, 1929 in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 25th, 2017, with his loving family by his side. He was our hero! He loved us, the whole world and then some. Papa Tony, was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. The love he had for his family was truly inspirational. His devotion to God and how he lived his life, truly defined the man that he was. Tony loved to golf and play cards, and was a big fan of Cleveland sports and watching games on Sundays during family dinners at his house. He was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Sons of Italy. He served as an MP in the Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Mannheim, Germany. He owned "Tony's Cut up Poultry," and "Valley Farm Market." He retired after 17 years with the city of Akron Corrections Division as the night shift booking sergeant. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty DeCarlo, on July 19th, 2017. Also, preceding him are his parents, Francesco and Antonia DeCarlo; brother, Joe DeCarlo; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dominic and Gertrude Costello; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Joanne, Raymond and Barbara, and Thomas Costello; and son-in-law, Gary Fisher. Survived by his children, Toni Fisher, Frank (Karen) DeCarlo, Chris (Melody) DeCarlo, Rita (Larry) Michalec, and Cindy (Mike) Protich; grandchildren: Laura (Jason) Harris, Joe (Katie) DeCarlo, Kristin (Mike) Dugan, Heather (David) Gezzar, Charlie (Danielle) Michalec, Lisa Fisher, Vince Michalec, Zoe and Micah Protich, and Chase DeCarlo; great-grandchildren: Dominic and Marissa Harris, Anthony DeCarlo, Lily and Dylan Gezzar, Vito Michalec, and Presley Dugan; brothers, Frank (Jean) and Andy (Paquita) DeCarlo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Maggie Costello, and Brenda Costello; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends. Family will receive friends at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main), 552 N. Main St., Akron, OH., on Friday, July 28th, from 4 - 7 p.m. A mass celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, July 29th, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron OH, 44310. The family wishes to thank the staff at Maplewood Senior Living and Summa Hospice, especially Amy Sauter. Should friends desire, donations may be made to St. Anthony's Grade School, 80 E York Street, Akron OH, 44310.
