Bergdorf

Wesley V. Bergdorf, 85, of Peninsula, passed away February 5, 2014.
He was born August 25, 1928 in Akron, Ohio. He graduated Copley High School in 1946. He proudly served his country in the Army Signal Corps from 1946-1948. Wes earned his degree from Kent State University in 1953 and married Lois Ann Ball on December 10, 1954. He joined the Boy Scouts at the age of 13 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1944. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and was bestowed the Silver Beaver award in 2005 for his volunteer work with the scouts. He was a professional with the Boy Scouts of America serving as the first camp director of Camp Butler and Camp Ritchie, Assistant Scout Executive, and Scout Executive during his 35 year career. Wes was an active member of the Boy Scouts for 72 years and was the proud member of a family of five Eagle Scouts and three generations of scouters. After retirement he worked for Acme Click stores and Blossom Music Center. Wes also served Boston Township as Chairman and Secretary of the Zoning Commission.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Lois Ann; son, Lawrence; father, Clarence; mother, Elizabeth; brother, Berg; sister, Joyce; and nephew, Rex Thiel. Wes is survived by his son, Christopher (Donna), son, Randolph; daughter, Janet; and son, Timothy (Rebecca); grandchildren, Danielle, Brent, Benjamin, Samuel, Abigail and Nathaniel; sister-in-law, Gen Bergdorf; nieces, Vivian Heiserman and Carolyn Thiel; and nephew, Jerry Bergdorf.
Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Camp Manatoc Dining Hall, 1075 Truxell Rd., Peninsula, Ohio 44264. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Great Trail Council for the Camp Manatoc Campership Fund, 1075 Truxell Rd., Peninsula, Ohio 44264.
