William R. (Bill) Horning, 92, passed away July 25, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born in Akron to Raymond and Isabel Horning and lived in the area his whole life.
He was a North High graduate; served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II, where he earned three bronze stars; and retired from AT&T after 33 years. Bill was active with Tallmadge Little League in the 1970's; volunteered for Toys of Love sponsored by Telephone Pioneers of America for 20 years; and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Gatsie; brother, Thomas Horning; mother of his children, Mary, and second wife, Doris.
He is survived by daughter, Janet and son, Dan (Janet); grandchildren, RaChelle and DJ; as well as stepsons: Larry (Susan) Vereb; Rick (Mary) Vereb; and Joe (Liz) Vereb; and step grandchildren: Tim (Jen), Evan (Elena), and Mallory (James); and a step great granddaughter.
Family will receive friends 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle)
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 91 North Ave., Tallmadge, OH with Rev. Michael Matusz officiating. (Procession to form at the Church)
Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with Military Honors by Firestone VFW Post #3383.
