Alan John Garner, 42, passed away March 31, 2023. He was born and lived all of his life in Akron. He graduated from Walsh Jesuit High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. Alan worked for Bath Township as Park Director and Assistant Service Director.
Alan was an avid sports fan, especially Michigan football, but would always root for the Big 10, even if it meant he had to cheer for OSU. Some of his favorite memories were going to the OSU-Michigan games with his brother and Grandpa John. Alan loved being outdoors, even when Theresa forced him to go on hikes after working outside all day long. He considered himself a semi-professional griller and chef, and would go outside to cook regardless of the weather. He had his advanced scuba certification, and never missed watching Shark Week. He adored his daughters and enjoyed sharing his love of music with Audrey and his passion for sports with Olivia. Sarcastic and stubborn, he was loyal to anyone he loved.
Alan is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughters, Audrey and Olivia; parents, Darrell (Gayle) Garner of Wadsworth, Christine (John) Sauner of Cuyahoga Falls; brother, David Garner of Columbus; grandparents, John (Rose) Mascio of Cuyahoga Falls, Helen Garner of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Elizabeth Sauner of Rootstown; aunt, Carolyn (John) Roussel of Cuyahoga Falls; uncles, Doug Garner of Toronto Ontario, Canada, Pat (Kathy) Mascio of Twinsburg; mother in law, Martha Holbert of Brimfield; father in law, James Lutz of Aurora; sister in law, Nicole (Bruce) Mason of Barberton; and many cousins, family members and friends.
