1932 - 2021 Alan Walter Peterson, 88, loving husband, father, and friend passed away on March 15, 2021. Alan was born on August 3, 1932, in Cleveland, OH, to Rose (nee Simicek) and Walter Peterson.
He graduated from John Marshall H.S. in 1950 and Case Institute of Technology in 1954. Alan married Audrey Godfray on June 13, 1953, and together they raised four children, Cindy (Bob) Umbarger (Monroe Falls), Jeff Peterson (Tallmadge), Ken (Jirina) Peterson (Norton), and Cheryl Peterson (Silver Spring, MD). Alan was a resident of Tallmadge and Hudson. Alan was a very kind and caring "people" person who was always willing to engage in conversation with everyone he met. He retired after 32 successful years as an engineer at General Tire and Rubber Company. Alan worked and played hard which is how he approached all things in life - giving his best effort. What the family remembers most is the many wonderful vacations, camping trips, and holidays spent together - full of laughter, love, and good times. In sports, Alan excelled as a wrestler at both the high school and college level. He earned a full scholarship to attend Case Institute of Technology and was twice state champion of Ohio and placed second in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) USA championship, earning Alan a trip to Japan to represent the United States. He is a member of the Case Hall of Fame and as a proud graduate credited his education for his professional success.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris.
Along with being survived by his wife of 67 years; and four children, Alan leaves behind Matthew, David, Judy, John, Patricia, and Sandra. He will also be missed by his AFS student exchange "son" Fred Eerenberg and his wife, Yoke (the Netherlands). He was also blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
