Billy Carter Obituary

MUNROE FALLS – Billy H. Carter, 94, passed away while in Hospice Care at Sprenger Health Care Heather Knoll facility on May 2, 2020.  He was born in Appalachia, VA in 1925, moving to the Cleveland area in 1950.  He subsequently relocated to Charlotte, NC in the mid-1980’s and recently moved back to Ohio to be closer to family.  He has been a resident of Munroe Falls since 2017.

He was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy, seeing action in the Asiatic-Pacific Area and was part of the Philippine Liberation.  While living in Ohio he served as Sunday School Superintendent and became Associate to the Pastor of Bethel Temple in Parma, founding the Christian Day School there. During his time in Charlotte he became a member and Associate Minister of Midwood Baptist Church.  Billy retired from full-time Ministry in 2017.

Described by many who knew and loved him as a gentle spirit, a loving, calming, and humble man. He enjoyed time with his family, pictures of the great-granddaughters, baseball, sweets, good clean jokes, reading and Big Band music.

Preceded in death by his parents, Owen Franklin and Anna Grace Jackson Carter, brother, James R. Carter, and sister, Shirley Carter Tucker.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Wanda Lee Herron Carter; son, Dennis (Connie); granddaughter, Lindsay Luli (Joey) and two beautiful great-granddaughters, Harper and Hayden; a host of nieces and nephews; and his wonderful Midwood Church family in Charlotte.

The Carter family would like to express a sincere thank-you to the entire Sprenger staff and especially the Hospice team at Heather Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  The attention and respectful treatment provided to Billy while in their care was very much appreciated.
