Brad Croskey Obituary

Brad Croskey, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Akron in 1952, Brad attended Springfield High School (Class of 1971) before earning a B.A. in Education and a Master’s Degree in Physics at The University of Akron.  Brad served his country in the Ohio National Guard from 1971 – 1977.

Brad began his illustrious teaching career at Tallmadge High School in 1975, teaching Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. His Physics classes always looked forward to his legendary “Physics Olympics” at the end of the school year. Brad always said his most rewarding work was teaching his high school classes and seeing his students succeed in life. During this time, Brad also served as the Coach to the Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis Teams for 18 seasons.

In 1995, with the installation of data networks and a prolific growth in the number of computers in the schools, Brad left teaching at the high school and transitioned to an administrative position when he was hired as the Director of Technology for the school district.  From that time forward, Brad was responsible for all aspects of technology…deployment, purchasing, planning, curriculum, support, and training.  His culminating project was the technology design and oversight in the construction of the new Tallmadge High School which serves as the district data center for the district’s high speed, centralized and converged network.

As a founding member of the District Steering Committee, Brad also served in negotiating several Tallmadge Teachers’ Association contracts. At the county level, Brad served as Chairman of the NEOnet Technology Advisory Committee and as a member of Board of Directors for the regional NEOnet Information Technology Center.

Brad retired in 2009, the same year his son, Brice, graduated from Tallmadge High School.  Brad was so happy and proud to award Brice his diploma on stage during the graduation ceremony.  After retirement, Brad continued to serve the school district and the community by being elected to the Board of Education. Brad also served as a trustee member for the Tallmadge Foundation.

In retirement, Brad enjoyed spending the winters in beautiful Savannah, GA. He loved visiting Brice in Orlando and vacationing at Walt Disney World.  Brad loved the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland because “He’s funny, and he’s clever, and he’s always outsmarting people.” Who does that sound like?  Brad was an avid golfer, biker, and walker.  He completed marathons in Walt Disney World, Cleveland, and Savannah.  Brad loved music and he and Renee attended over 100 concerts with best friends John and Denise Wray.

Brad is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Violet Croskey.

Brad is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Renee Croskey; son, Brice Croskey of Orlando, Florida; fur baby, Tia; sister, Carol (Bob) Bowyer of Uniontown; mother-in-law, Rose Mocklar of Tallmadge; sister-in-law, Rochell Mocklar of Tallmadge; Godparents, Jon and Irene Gunnerson of Hudson, and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A private service will be held by the family with Interment at Tallmadge Cemetery.

“Take a few of these, the sweeter memories

Don’t forget them please, the sweeter memories

To set your mind at ease, the truest remedies

Are the sweeter memories”
