Frank Joseph Leonardi, 97, Tallmadge Ohio, passed away peacefully May 4, 2022 with family by his side.
Frank was born in Akron, Ohio on December 28, 1924 to Marion and Jenny (Giancontieri) Leonardi. He graduated from Garfield High School, attended Akron University while working for the Goodyear Aircraft Corporation. Frank joined the Army Air Force, and served stateside as an aerial gunner and radio mechanic during WWII. After his discharge from the service, he married Josephine Lombardo on August 10, 1946, the beginning of a marriage lasting more than 74 years. They lived in Akron, Stow and Tallmadge where they raised six children. Frank and Josie loved family outings, traveling, bowling, ballroom dancing and playing card games with friends and neighbors. Frank also enjoyed golfing and other outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed a good long run.
Frank earned his certification as a civil engineer and worked as a surveyor for the city of Akron for 39 years, retiring at the age of 60.
In addition to his parents and his wife Josie, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Joe (Betty) Leonardi; sister, Mary (Emil) Isch; and son-in-law, Denny Oakleaf.
Surviving relatives include brother, Phil (Alberta) Leonardi of Myrtle Beach, NC; sons, Bob (Connie) Leonardi of Holland, OH, Tom (Lori) Leonardi of Tallmadge, OH, Bill (Sandy) Leonardi of Hartville, OH; daughters, Susan Oakleaf of Wooster, OH, Carol (Mike) Long of Corona, CA, Denise (Terry) Glandorf of Uniontown, OH; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. He had numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Frank. His children were blessed to have their dad for so many years. Frank will be remembered for his kind and caring manner, and will be missed by all.
A Mass in celebration will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church, 73 North Avenue, Tallmadge, on Saturday, May 28 at 1:30PM.
Calling hours preceding the Mass will begin at 12:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice, Visiting Angels, and the Cleveland Clinic Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
Interment will be at a later date at Western Reserve National Military Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
