Gale Stem Obituary

Gale Wilson Stem, 86, passed away suddenly June 25, 2021

Born in Akron, Gale had lived in the Tallmadge/Akron area his entire life. A 1953 graduate of Tallmadge High School, Gale was class President and a proud member of the All-Metro Football Championship Teams of 1952-1953. Gale was always eager to reminisce with his family about his glory days of playing offensive left tackle and defensive linebacker. Love of the game and hometown mentality - Gale always remained an avid fan of the Tallmadge Blue Devils, Cleveland Browns and THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

Gale attended Max Hayes Trade School through Bricklayers Local #7 Akron, Ohio - beginning his 40 year career of being an accomplished Mason. Today, his craftsmanship still stands throughout Northeast Ohio. Driven by the love for his family, Gale attended the University of Akron – receiving his realtor license selling properties in Tallmadge and its surrounding areas. Proudly, Gale served 6 years in the United States Army Reserve. Throughout the years, Gale was an active member within the Tallmadge community - Tallmadge Grange, Indian Guides, Boy Scouts and Little Leagues. He served as a Youth Fellowship Leader, while attending the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge where he had been a member since early childhood.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mabel Stem; sisters, JoAnn Wood, Patty Skelley; son in law, Bill Prulhiere.

Gale, a loving and devoted husband, is survived by the Love of His Life, his wife of 65 years, JoAnn Stem.

A strong and loving father to his surviving children, daughter, Julie Prulhiere; sons, Jeffrey (Andrea) Stem and Timothy (Jodi) Stem. His constant presence, sound advice and unwavering love will be memories cherished for a life time.

Blessed with five grandchildren who loved and respected him dearly, Timothy “Adam” (Susie) Stem, Steven Prulhiere, Raejehn (Kevin) Porter, Gavin and Nathan Stem - he led by example.

By Gale’s great grandchildren, Allie and Aiden Stem and Gabriella and Kevin Porter, he will be remembered lovingly bouncing on his knee, reading the same tiny tattered books that were read to each generation of Stem’s, and talking to Grandpa Stem on the phone.

Gale’s no-nonsense ways, dry witt and his love for his family will be sadly missed and forever etched in our hearts.
