Gloria Joanne (Stallings) Stayer

Gloria Joanne Stayer (nee Stallings), 88, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023.  Born in Akron on April 23, 1935, to the late Wayne and Mildred Stallings, she was raised in Cuyahoga Falls, graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, class of 1953, and Akron General School of Nursing in 1956.  Gloria worked as a registered nurse at Akron General Hospital before raising her family and later at Edwin Shaw Hospital, where she retired in 1995 after 15 years of service. 

Gloria married the love of her life, Mark L. Stayer, Jr., on August 31, 1957, residing in Suffield for most of those 66 years, and was a member of the Suffield United Church of Christ.   She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and was known for her homemade noodles, chocolate Easter eggs and apple pie. Her world revolved around her family. She loved having family over for  get togethers and celebrating the holidays especially Christmas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bob Stallings and sister-in-law Olin Stallings.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Mark L. Stayer Jr.; daughters, Debbie (Dave) Jakubisin, Dawn (John) Corall; sons, Mark (Marie) Stayer, Loren (Brenda) Stayer, Jeff (Lisa) Stayer; grandchildren, Joshua, Heather (Brad), Gina, Joe (Veena), Todd, Jeff Jr. (Megan), Curtis, Kaitlyn (Aaron), Briana (Kyle), Jessica (Adam), Jacob, Matthew, Benjamin; great grandchildren, Margo, Mary, Addie; nephew Robert Stallings, niece Cheryl Puskas and family, cousins, and the Stayer family.

Our family wishes to thank long-time neighbors Steve and Sandy Peterson and Frank and Barb Papp for their friendship and kindness, Pastor Karin and members of Suffield UCC, the staff of Gables of Canton and Remembrance Hospice for their compassionate care.

We are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful mother.  We will always love you, Mom!!
