Howard F. Kelley, 88, passed away peacefully at his home, October 2, 2022.
He was a graduate of East High School and the University of Akron, where he was recognized for his prowess on the pitching mound. Later he was inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame. Howard continued his love for baseball through coaching, mentoring and umpiring local little league teams. He had a long career with Goodyear in the Research and Development Department. This position provided him the opportunity to travel the world. His love of travel continued into retirement. Howard enjoyed many trips with family and friends, and enjoyed recounting these trips even more. He had a knack for extending a story with enthusiasm and great detail to anyone that was willing to listen. He had a real way with words.
History was another one of his passions. This led him to volunteer and later serve as president of the Tallmadge Historical Society. He also enjoyed boating and became well known at the Lake Milton Boat Club for his leadership skills (Commodore) and his questionable docking skills (earning him the "Crash Kelley Helmet").
Howard is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Mary Jane; daughter, Lesli (Chris) Began of Hudson; son, Michael (Carolyn) Kelley of Milton, Georgia; grandchildren, Katherine and Joe Kelley, Alexander and Jacob Began. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia (Jim) Kelley of Kent; sisters-in-law, Emma Colletti, Josephine Murdocco; brother-in-law, Vincent (Gerrie) Murdocco, Frank (Kay) Murdocco and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends and family may call 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday October 6, 2022 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
