James J. Vargo departed this life in his home October 13th, 2023 in Akron, OH at the age of 71.
James J. Vargo was born August 22, 1952, in Akron, OH, the son of the late Joseph Albert and Wanda Theone Vargo.
A 1971 graduate of Ellet High School.
James honorably served his country in the United States Marines 1971-1973 during the Vietnam Era. After serving, James went on to the University of Akron where he studied history and music.
In September of 1990, he met the love of his life Della M. Watkins and they were married in January 1991 and spent 32 years together.
James worked for Mueller Electric Company as a wire cutter and machine builder. He was a member of Apostolic Temple in Cuyahoga Falls. He was also an American Legion member. James loved studying the Bible, sharing his testimony of what God had done for him in his life, writing and playing music and sports. He was always upbeat and encouraging. James was known for his sayings: "That's a nice bus", "That's a really nice church", "Semper Fidelis (always faithful)". He was lovingly referred to as the vacuum sweeper at Apostolic Temple in his softball days at picnics, and referred to as the "Silver Fox" because of his beautiful head of hair. He never met a stranger; he made anyone who met him feel welcomed and loved. His chief joy was his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife, Della Vargo of Akron, Ohio; daughters Natalie (Rob) Lax of Dover, OH, Candace (Carlos) Martinez of Atwater, OH, Hannah (Jonathan) Rogers of Mogadore, OH; sisters, Sue Cochran of California, Constance Vargo of Florida and Pamela Vargo of Washington DC; six grandchildren Hannah Rose Yoder and Abby Ray Lax, both of Dover, OH, Alicia and David Martinez of Atwater, OH and Declan and Milo Rogers of Mogadore, OH; two nieces and a nephew, as well as great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care, and to Your Home Court Advantage Health Care, through the VA. Their compassion, empathy and care were greatly appreciated.
