John Kaiser Obituary

December 22, 1942 – February 21, 2024

John Albert Kaiser, 81, passed away peacefully in his home on February 21, 2024, after taking his final bank holiday.

Born in Gary, Indiana, John lived in the Tallmadge and Uniontown areas for most of his life.  He served in the US Army Reserves.  John retired from First Merit Bank after 42 years of service, starting in the mailroom and retiring as a senior vice president.  After retiring from banking, he worked as an IT security consultant, and then enjoyed driving cars for Enterprise.

John found love later in life and was married to Debbie in 2002.  They enjoyed 22 years of marriage, traveling the world, photographing nature, hiking national parks, and spending some ‘credits’ in Vegas.  Vegas is relieved now, knowing that John isn’t going to take any more money home.  The rest of us are relieved we will no longer be asked the cost of everything.

John was a loving and involved grandfather, affectionately called “Poppy” by Xavier, Cooper, and Violet.  He went to every birthday party, game, concert, recital, parade, and performance.  In poetic beauty, his final adventure into public was to see Violet (and Jeremiah) perform in the Nutcracker.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marta Poe.

John is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Kristen (Brad) Braziel; son, David (Rochelle) Kaiser; stepchildren, Sarah (Jeremiah) Isley and Greg Wood; grandchildren Xavier, Cooper, Violet, Nicholas, Jackson, and Ryan; sister, Nancy.

We are very thankful for the amazing care by Summa Health at Home, Palliative care, and Hospice, especially Gina, Scott, Amy, and his favorite, Zack.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Molly’s Wheels of Hope, an organization that assists the needs of sick, injured, and special needs animals, run by friends from their hiking adventures (

Private services will be held for family and close friends.
